Prompted by a fight between their servants, Benvolio (a Montague) and Tybalt (a Capulet) brawl in the public square of Verona. The Prince stops the fight and vows to execute any Capulet or Montague who disturbs the peace of Verona again. A melancholy Romeo tells Benvolio he is in love.
